stuff-to-do-top.jpg

Whether you're walking, cycling, fishing or just relaxing during you're stay with us, we have it all here.  We can provide info on local walks and if you are looking at something else be it fly-fishing or cycling I’m sure we can help.

FISHING

This can be offered as an unaccompanied activity, a pre-briefed activity with Mark Chamberlain or a guide.  Meeting our anglers the evening before they get out on the water to pass on tips and the latest fly patterns/techniques or as a fully guided day. The two species that most anglers expect to see;

Trout – available on Blagdon & Chew Valley Lakes less than a mile from the pub. Your guide will advise which is fishing better at the time. Blagdon lake also has engined boats available if not with a guide.

Grayling – The best location is the Wherwell estate (Andover) which is 1.5 hr drive from the pub. It is advised to go with our guide, but anglers can go as a party. There are 8 beats available, with anglers normally buying a specific beat.

WALKING

Season: All year Follow our different trails, we can offer a guide. Explore the Mendip Hills and nearby lakes.

SAILING

Chew Valley Lake is the largest inland waterway in the South West, and a great place to sail. Various courses are held at the club including, RYA training, various youth training, power boat training and race officer training as well as more informal training within each fleet. A selection of dinghies is also available to take out.

FORAGING

More and more people becoming aware of foraging as an activity via the likes of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Rachel Lambert. Our foraging offerings fall into three main areas, Fungi, Woodland/Hedgerow and Coastal. Our very own expert Adrian Boots will guide you on either area you decide to choose.

SHOOTING

Most of the shooting available is on the basis of “day tickets” on various shoots.  There are obviously some greater practical and security issues around shooting breaks (see below) but these should not be insurmountable.

DEER

Red or Row on Exmoor + 1-1.5 hours' travel

Must be guided

Shooters must be qualified to DSC level 1 or equivalent

PHEASANT

Exmoor or on local shoots (location may depend on number of guns)

Guns may be asked to provide some brief outline of their experience to ensure safety.

Please note activity costs to clients will be a combination of some fixed elements (equipment hire / permits / consumable costs) and some variable (typically pheasant shoots are charged on a "per bird" basis for a pre-specified number of birds). Guide costs will relate to the number of hours expended on a particular day and may also include some variability for travel.

A price model for any of the activities above is available upon request.
